Abstract (EN)
Upper Euphrates Region is a region where cultural mobility is seen intensely since prehistoric times due to its temperate climate, plains suitable for agriculture and vital activities. Due to these characteristics, it has been the scene of various struggles from past to present. Although very limited studies have been conducted on the region so far, it is seen from the available data that there has been a movement in the Hellenistic and Roman Periods in terms of our position in this region, thanks to the excavations and surveys conducted. In particular, it was seen that Rome entered intense struggles in the region and these struggles were caused by the aim of extending its borders to the Euphrates after establishing dominance in Asia Minor. We see the traces of these conquest movements clearly with the presence of castle structures, which were determined by excavations in the Elazığ and Malatya provinces. Based on a limited number of available data, this study tried to bring together the phases of the Upper Euphrates Region from the Paleolithic Age to the end of the Roman Period.
