A model proposal for the integration of internal control and enterprise risk management system in contractor construction companies and implementation of this model

Contractor companies in the construction sector have to be in a constant change and development in order to eliminate the institutionalization deficiencies. Regardless of the sector, every organization, large or small, with a corporate governance approach, needs to adopt a management model in order to continue its existence in business life. Among these models, the risk-based proactive management model, together with internal control and enterprise risk management, can be cited as an example of its most common use. "Enterprise Risk Management – (ERM)" has a holistic approach to the risk management process, allowing business processes to be managed efficiently and effectively. In the construction sector, where dynamic elements are effective due to being in constant motion, holistic and systematic management approaches should be applied in order to ensure that the cost, quality and time elements give the desired results in increasingly complex projects. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of internal control and ERM on company processes in contractor construction companies. For this purpose, a web-based "Joint Project Management Portal" (JPMP) has been developed for the implementation of internal control and ERM system in contractor construction companies. Within the scope of the study, the impact of JPMP on company processes was evaluated through the projects considered as case studies.
