Higher education graduated youth unemployment: A research on graduates of labor economics and industrial relations

Abstract (EN)
This study is about the youth unemployment of the higher education graduates. In today's world, unemployment has become a serious problem that countries have to deal with all over the world. It is possible to understand the seriousness of this situation by looking at unemployment data. While unemployment rates are decreasing and unemployment rates are increasing every year, the biggest share among unemployed people is young people. Therefore, it should be stated that the real victims of this situation are young people. It is noteworthy that in recent years the proportion of young unemployed people is made up of young people with tertiary education. Undoubtedly, many people in the society experience unemployment in a variety of ways, but university education and lack of employment it has become a bleeding wound of today's societies. The fact that the young people who have completed their university education cannot be employed in the most productive ages is also a source of significant losses for themselves and their families as well as for the society they are in. Indirectly, the unemployment situation of young individuals is reflected in all social relations. Significantly having educated young population, Turkey has become one of the countries that are experiencing a high level of youth unemployment. Many problems on the basis of this thesis study aim to discuss the unemployment of university graduates, the first job search process after graduation, and the training they received at the university. Problems of young high education graduates were examined with the results of field research. In the scope of the research; In-depth interviews were conducted with 24 people who graduated from Labor Economics and Industrial Relations Department of Akdeniz University by using a semi-structured questionnaire. It was seen that the graduates interviewed within the scope of the field research were divided into different categories. Some of the graduates prepared themselves for KPSS exam to be a civil servant, some graduates prepared themselves for the bank exams and the master's degree exam, while some of the graduates directly entered in a private sector. Regardless of the individual's preference in this direction, they differ in their problems . Within the scope of the interviews, it was seen that the graduates experienced very serious problems in the transition to the employment market and the devalued higher education both in the private and in the public sectors. Another result vii of the research is that young people are exposed to psychological pressure in their family and social environment during the unemployment.
