Management problems of higher education

The aim of the present study was screening the administrative problems of highereducation, suggesting solutions by determining how those problems are perceived by theacademic staff and to reply for whether the differences among universities, faculties, degreesand the gender of the staff effect these perceptions and job satisfaction.The study included 396 academic staff who were selected by stratified randomsampling by the degrees from the same faculties of three different universities established atdifferent dates. The data of the study was collected by an interview that was developed by theresearcher. Nine sub-problems were investigated by this interview and the data was analyzedand interpreted by the statistical methods including means, frequencies, percentages, t-test, Fstatistics, variance analysis, Scheffe and Tukey HSD tests.The data of the present study were evaluated by seven problem area dimensionsobtained by factorial analysis and including the problems in the quality of the academic staff,quality as an administrator, education and research, human relationship, opportunity inescalation and qualification, reaching organizational aims, democracy. Additionally, jobsatisfaction of the staff were questioned.There were significant differences in all dimensions among universities and in qualityof the academic staff, opportunity in escalation and qualification, human relationship, qualityas an administrator and reaching organization aims among faculties. There were alsosignificant differences between the degrees by the opportunity in escalation and qualification,reaching organization aims and education and research. The only significant differencebetween the genders was found in the perception of the problems in education and research.The overall job satisfaction of the academic staff was found to be low.
