Abstract (EN)

Ceramic productions, which have a comprehensive process, have mostly shaped glaze types after random formations. One of the examples of these random developments is ash secrets. Natural ash It was created during the primitive firings performed in wood fired (Anagama) furnaces, as a result of the melting of flying ashes by holding onto ceramic surfaces and the artistic glaze effect. Natural ash glaze, which is considered to be the oldest ceramic glaze, dates back to BC. It was found in the Shang Dynasty in 1500 and its production continued until the Zhou Period. The aim of this study is to use the alkaline-rich tuberous plants growing under the ground as an artistic glaze raw material. In the study, tuberous plant ashes (potato, carrot, radish, yam, sugar beet, turnip, garlic, onion, ginger, celery) were added one by one to the recipes prepared using transparent frit, ulexite, sodium feldspar and potassium feldspar one by one and iron colored with oxide, copper oxide, manganese oxide, cobalt oxide, and tin oxide. Later, the ashes of tuber plants were added one by one to the recipe, which includes transparent frit, ulexite, sodium and potassium feldspar. Glaze trials were applied on vitrified clay, biscuit firing was performed at 1000oC and glazed firing at 1200oC. The prescriptions with positive results as a result of the trials were multiplied and applied to three-dimensional forms. Keywords: Artistic glazes, Ash glazes, Tuberous Roots
