The New features given to wool fabrics and influences of fashion

Wool obtained from sheep's back is one of the most ancient textile fibres. It is obtained by shearing and plucking from skin. Bringing it into being fabric goes back many years before the invention of writing. It is a known truth that they were spinning and weaving wool at houses at Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greek. For many years, wool has been developed to answer the needs of a family. However, by making progress after Industrial Revolution, it was transferred to commercial field. Merinos sheep's wool has been accepted as the most valuable sheep wool in fabric production in commerce. Merinos sheep giving finest wool have been first grown in Australia. Then the spread through many countries of the world. Today Australia is the country which still produces the most of the Merinos. It is the medula layer that determines the fineness of fibre in wool hair including three main parts as Epidermis (Kutikul), Karteks(Skin) and Medulla (Hair root). The smaller and narrower the medula is, the finer the fibre becomes. Merinos wool is fine because Medulla is extremely narrow. Fineness is very important physical feature for wool fibres. Keeping heat, absorbing moisture and matting are other important physical feature for wool features of wool fibre, especially inwiew of showing the way to the new works. Because of its heat keeping feature, wool keeps warm in the body in winter, and does not let hot air get in to the body in summer. It functions as a block between skin and autor environment. Since it has much moistre absorbing ability, there is no disturbing feeling resulting from perspiration. It includes rather important features for health. And, there are some other works done to give it some new features in addition to its known classical ones. One of these works is to make it washable in machines by making use of its matting feature. According to the new project, wool fabrics can be washed safely in a home type machine that has 30 C wool program. This newness, economically makes the consumer very relax. Another feature is to make the wool easily wearable in spring and summer months. In these case, its heat keeping feature has an important role. To change the known image of wool fabrics by changing its surface appearances is also one of the features thried to be given in view of project. The aim is to be able to address to consumers at every level and to make wool fabric wearable in every season by offering it closer to them. Project proposols at the end of the thesis also have the same aim.
