Social skill levels of students from Anatolian high schhol who have lived in another country were compared with the social skill levels of students who did not have another country life experience

In this research, first, social skill levels of students who have lived in another country were compared with the social skill levels of students who did not have another country life experience, and then only social skill levels of students who had another Turkey life experience were examined in terms of some variables related to migration experience. The sample consisted of a total of 455 Anatolian High in Ankara. The number of students who had another country life experience were 215. The data regarding the social skill levels of students were gathered by using the "inventory of social skills" developed by Riggio (1986, 1989) and adapted to Turkish by Yüksel (1997). The statistical techniques used to analyze date were t-test, one-way analyses of variance, two-way analyses of variance, and Scheffe test. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1. When the social skill levels of students were compared according to the some common variables a) in terms of the emotional expressivity, social sensivity, and social control levels, the social skill levels of students who had another country life experience were significantly higher than those not having that experience. However, in terms of emotional sensitivity, emotional control, and social expressivity, there were no significant differences between social skill levels of students.b) in terms of the classroom level, level of perceived academic success, and income level of the family, the social skill levels of students who had another country life experience were significantly higher than those not having that experience. c) There were no significant differences between the social skill levels of students who had another country life experience and who did not have that experience in terms of gender, in-family relationships, and educational level of fathers, and mothers. 2. When the social skill levels of students who had another country life experience were examined according to some variables regarding the migration process a) there were significant differences among social skill levels of students in terms of the age they left Turkey, the year they returned back to Turkey, the duration they have been studying in Turkey, and the level they speak the Turkish language. b) there were no significant differences among social skill levels of students in terms of the duration they lived in another country, whether they went to kindergarten in that country, where they lived in that country, whether most of friends were Turkish, in what age they returned to Turkey, the reason they returned to Turkey, and whether they were happy to be in Turkey.
