An approach based on bakhtin's dialogy to Yusuf Atılgan's novel, "Aylak Adam"

Mikhael Bakhtin (1895-1975), a prominent Literature theorist in XXth Century, introduced new terms such as dialogy; heteroglossia; polifonia and carnivalesque into the literary criticism and theories and he showed us a different perspective of the evaluation of modern novels with this terms. This study aims to evaluate Yusuf Atılgan's an important modern Turkish author Aylak Adam in a dialogical way according to the terms that are the basic parts of Bakhtin's art of novel.There are three parts in this study.In the first part, "Dialogy in Aylak Adam'', types of discourse have been analyzed according to dialogy and it has been understood that this novel is dialogical. In the second part, "Heteroglossia in Aylak Adam'', we have shown that theme develops with different languages and types. Therefore, novel is heteroglot and polifonic. In the third part, "Poliphonia in Aylak Adam'', characters express their original ideas as the representative of their own voices with dialogic relations. In addition, ideas in the novel have been analyzed according to carnivalesque that Bakhtin relates it to the poliphonic novel.
