Evaluation of the correlation between face proportions and tooth size and pulp volume using cone beam computed tomography

Abstract (EN)

Aim: To investigate the relationship of different facial parameters (bizygomatic, epicanthus, bicomissural, interalar and interpupillary distance, mid and lower face height) and demographic factors such as stature, age, gender with dental morphometries (pulp volume, root lengths and crown widths) through cone-beam computed tomography. Material and Method: 57 subjects were included in the study. Dental parameters such as dental crown widths and tooth-root lengths were calculated with Planmeca Romexis 4.6.2.R software. Pulp volumes were measured with ITK-SNAP 3.4.0. Face measurements were performed with a digital calliper, and stature measurements with a height gauge capsule. The relationship between dental parameters and facial, stature and age parameters were calculated by Pearson correlation analysis, while the differences between the parameters between genders were calculated using independent sample t-test through Jamovi statistical software. Results: A significant negative correlation was found between pulp volume and age, bicomissural distance (p<0.05). Significant positive correlations were found between mesiobuccal root length and stature, bicomissural, bizygomatic, lower face height (p<0.05); between distobuccal root length and stature (p<0.05); between palatinal root length and stature, bicomissural, interalar, intermolar distances, midface height (p<0.05); between buccopalatinal width and stature (p<0.05); and between the mesiodistal width and the bizygomatic distance (p<0.05). Conclusion: Tooth crown widths and root lengths can be predicted based on gender, stature and some facial parameters, and pulp volume can be predicted based on age and bicomissural distance.
