SUMMARY Effects of Surface Coating Materials and Process Parameters on Technical Properties of Particleboard Specific properties of the boards used in this study were as follows: 280x210x1.8 cm dimensions, 0.68 g/cm3 specific gravity. Produced boards were coated with lacquered paint, melamine impregnated papers, wood veneers and continue press laminates. Effects of surface coating material type, melamine paper weight, wood veneer type and thickness, continue press laminates thickness, press temparature, press time, pressure and adhesive type on physical, mechanical, surface quality, fire properties, thermal conductivity and formaldehyde emission of particleboard were investigated. It was concluded that surface coating materials improved the mechanical, physical properties and formaldehyde emission of particleboard except for fire properties and thermal conductivity. Press temparature and time were found to be effective on formaldehyde emission for every kind of surface coating material and the other technical properties of particleboard coated with continue press laminates. Pressure didn't effect the technical properties. Adhesive type was found to be effective on formaldehyde emission.
