Abstract (EN)

Time delay is an important problem in control engineering that has been working for more than half a century. More precisely, a stable feedback system may become unstable for some delay value yet, a delay value may stabilize an unstable system or enhance the control performance, and this paradox makes time delay systems very attractive. A number of novel control schemes are presented in the thesis and analysed in order to improve the capabilities of control systems. First, considering the negative effect of delay, a number of predictor based control strategies are proposed for different system types. It is observed that the proposed control strategies give extra robustness and improve the capability of the control systems. Second, from a different perspective, the favourable effects of the time delay are investigated. Toward this goal, delay-based control schemes are designed and experimentally applied to an electromechanical system. The control methods are tested in simulations and then experimentally applied to real systems. The experimental results are presented graphically and tabulated in terms of some performance measures. According to the results, the proposed algorithms are very effective in controlling the time delay systems in the presence of noise, internal/external disturbances, and uncertainties.
