Abstract (EN)
The Social Studies course, which allows students to develop skills such as social responsibility, individual discipline, and effective time management, is critical in acquiring these skills. This study is conducted on the time awareness of 5th grade students and whether they have time skills. The importance of acquiring time management skills, the role of parents and Social Studies teachers in acquiring these skills to students and whether sufficient importance is given to the concept of time in the curriculum constitute the main points of the study. The aim of the new arrangements to be made in the curriculum is to provide students and teachers with additional information. The study examined the curriculum, and comparisons were made regarding time concepts by examining the textbooks prepared by the Ministry of National Education for the years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. After the examinations, semi-structured interviews were organised with 5th grade students, parents and Social Studies teachers to support the study and their opinions were examined. Interview forms and document analysis related to the research were used as data collection tools. In the study, first the curriculum was examined, and it was revealed in which years' time management skills were present in the curriculum. In 2005, the ability to perceive time and chronology was added for the first time. When examined according to years, it was seen that the ability to perceive time and chronology was not distributed evenly. When these concepts (time, chronology, management, literacy and self-control) included in the Social Studies books prepared by the Ministry of National Education for the years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 were examined, it was seen that these concepts were given more place in 2024-2025 compared to 2023-2024, except for chronology. As a result of the interviews conducted with the students, it was revealed that the students had deficiencies in time management skills. It was learned that Social Studies teachers thought that time management skills were lacking in the curriculum as well and that they should be given more place. It was also revealed that the parents had deficiencies in time management skills. From the results obtained, it can be suggested that time management skills are lacking in the curriculum, and that this skill should be added more to the subjects. KEY WORDS: Self-Control Skills, Social Studies, Time Literacy, Time Management, Time.
