With the evolution of the internet in recent years, we have witnessed an increasing interest inonline shopping. Along with this trend, a new concept arose: the online shipping fee charged bythe internet seller replaces the fixed costs of the consumer in an offline setting such as time andtravel costs. While marketing research has much insight about the ordering behavior in theoffline setting, a great deal of uncertainty exists on the optimal ordering behavior of theconsumer who is faced with this new barrier. In this paper, I model a rational online repeatbuyer's ordering behavior being faced with time contingent shipping policies of the internetseller. Then, I demonstrate that by increasing the time threshold for slow shipping the seller mayinduce the shopper to increase their order size and to decrease their consumption rate. Theseimplications of the model will give insight about designing time contingent shipping feepolicies.Keywords: The Internet Shopping, Online Shipping Policies, Shipping Fees
