Abstract (EN)

IV SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of "Individualized Instructional Material Presented by Open Teaching" and "Individualized Instructional Material Presented by Interactive Unit" in acquisition of color (red, yellow) and shape (circle, triangle) concepts to students with mental retardation. Alternating treatment design, which is one of the single subject designs, is using as a research design. A total of 4 students, who where from school of Cagdas Egitim- Uygulama attending to self-care I and self-care II during 1998-1999 education year who can have the pre-requisite behavior. To collect the research data, in order to determine the levels of mentally retarded students on red, yellow, circle and triangle concepts, " Concept Criterion Referenced Tests" were developed. In order to determine the levels of students in the concepts taught by interactive unit, " Concept Criterion Referenced Tests " that were design according to interactive unit and applied once before the instruction of the concept. Data of the study were given in graphs and graphs were qualitatively interpreted.Results of the study indicated that three at a time sessions done by "Individualized Instructional Material Presented by Open Teaching" was more effective than "Individualized Instructional Material Presented by Interactive Unit" as it causes to acquire the concepts.
