The vocabulary world in the poetry of Ziya Osman Saba

Style is a literary concept that holds the seal of personality of an author or a poet and in which language is primary element. The style in poem, which is an aesthetic form, is revealed by means of using the words which are integrating with each other formally and contextually. While expressing feelings and ideas, words in poem, the artistic kind of literature, are linguistic units which are selected attentively. Therefore, while analyzing the style of a poem, starting from the words, one of the lowest stages of a language may contribute to the validity of analyzing. Vocabulary world of an author or a poet in his works is an indicator of how he perceives the universe because in literary works there is no objects and entities but sounds and words instead. As a result; in the light of tangible data, Style Analyzing can yield positive outcomes via word analyzing supported by computer technology. Ziya Osman Saba was a poet who contributed a lot to enrich renewing Turkish poetry with his own large vocabulary knowledge and his exclusive style during the earliest years of Turkish Republic. Saba was the youngest and the most powerful figure of Yedi Meşaleciler. However, this unique figure of our literature caught the attention of literary critics neither while living, nor in the later years as he had a modest personality. Whether in his life or literary works, Saba never became a storm of controversy and never surrendered himself to any kind of ideology. What is more, he never had great ambitions and goals in his life. Instead, he was a "death, love, family and nostalgic poet" who always expressed himself kindly and gently. Also, he had a naive personality, and this often reflects placidly on the words he used in his poems. As a result, in this study, we have wordbasely tried to analyze Saba's poems in which there is an inseparable relation between in his life and his literary works.
