Abstract (EN)

The writing of history and biographies began in the 15th century in the Ottoman Empire, and lasted until its collapse. The increasing availability of such works provided valuable sources for the passing down of history and literature. The subject of the present study, "Metaliu'l-Aliye fi Gurreti'l-Galiye" written in 1760, is of great historical and literary importance because it gives detailed and chronologically accurate information about the life and services of Grand Vizier Hekimoglu Ali Pasha, written by his son, Ismail Ziyaeddin bin Ali. The book has five copies, three of which are kept under the pressmarks of TY 2486, TY 2349, and TY 1207 by the Library of Istanbul University, with the other two copies found in the Library of İbnulemin Mahmut Kemal and the Austrian National Library in Vienna under the pressmarks of 3442 and 1114, respectively. The present study aims to provide a better understanding of the time of Hekimoglu Ali Pasha through his biography, and to determine the literary comprehensibility of the language used in historical documents and the poems in the text based on the book. The present study is composed of four sections, namely introduction, text, index-dictionary, and conclusions. In the second section, the text has been transcribed based on the copy with the pressmark of TY 2486 kept in the Library of Istanbul University, as this copy was the original manuscript of the author. In the third section, the contextual meanings of the Turkish, Arabic, and Persian words used in the text are given, and the frequencies at which these words are used are statistically analyzed.
