Calculation of air pollutant emissions from domestic heating and motor vehicles by emission inventory method in Zonguldak

Abstract (EN)
In this study, emissions from domestic heating and motor vehicles were calculated by inventory method in province of Zonguldak in 2019. EMEP/EEA 2016 Air Pollutant Emission Inventory Guidebook is used for calculation of the emissions. Nitrogen oxides (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOC), sulfur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions as a result of the use of raw and washed coal in domestic heating, were determined. Accordingly, the use of raw coal was found as the source of pollutants generated by domestic heating throughout the province and the highest pollutant concentration was observed in SOx emissions (7995.36 tons/year). In the meantime, other pollutant emissions were calculated as NOx emission 1042.45 tons/year, NMVOC emission 4301.96 tons / year, and PM emissions 3590.4 tons / year. In Zonguldak, it was observed that the pollutant emissions decreased by the increase of natural gas usage in domestic heating in 2019. On the other hand, nitrogen oxide (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compound (NMVOC), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) emissions from motor vehicles were calculated by the same method. Emissions from motor vehicles in use throughout the province have been found according to the vehicle category, cylinder capacity and fuel types. NOx, NMVOC, CO and PM emissions from motor vehicles were calculated as 991.49, 239.26, 1655.17 and 22.79 tons/year respectively. It is found that CO emissions were emitted by gasoline and LPG vehicles, and most of NMVOC emissions were emitted by LPG vehicles. NOx and PM emissions were emitted by diesel vehicles. As a result of this study, the data obtained with the emission inventory method will make an important contribution in the assessment of the change of air quality over time in Zonguldak.
