The Halep Judgment Books Number dated 1168-1171 that we have prepared includes documents between Hijri Rabiü'l-ahir 1168-Safer 1171 (A.D. January 1755-November 1757). All these documents examined have provided us with important information about the social, economic and legal situation of Aleppo at that time. Halep has a strategic importance due to its location and is also considered privileged thanks to its natural water resources and ports. Halep, especially located at the center of the trade routes extending from Anatolia to Mesopotamia and from the Mediterranean to Iran, has become an important trade city. The increasing population along with the development of trade has brought about the development of construction activities in Halep. Social complexes, inns and markets were built and the welfare level of the city was increased. By the 18th century, the population of Halep was around 120,000. The change in the commercial conjuncture along with the internal turmoil and rebellions that occurred over time had a negative impact on Halep and therefore paved the way for various problems such as banditry, extortion and theft. Along with these problems, Ahkam books were created by recording the cases heard and the copies of the judgments given in line with the complaints made on various issues.
