Abstract (EN)

Ceyb-i Hümâyûn is a term used for the sultan's personal treasury, which manages the sultan's income and expenditures. The dictionary meaning of this term, which is a combination of the word Hümâyûn (belonging to the sultan) and the word ceyb (pocket), is the sultan's pocket. This treasury, which had various revenue items, was centralized with the reforms made during the Tanzimat period and its revenues were transferred to the newly created Finance Treasury. The Ceyb-i Hümâyûn Treasury is extremely important in terms of shedding light on the expenditures made both by the sultan himself and the members of the dynasty. For this reason, in the study prepared by us as a master's thesis, twelve Jeyb-i Hümâyûn and Harc-ı Hâssa ledgers dated 1178/1764-1765 belonging to the reign of Mustafa III were examined, and the income and expenditure items of the treasury were determined and evaluated. In the aforementioned ledgers, it was observed that the revenue items of the treasury were diversified, and the revenue sources of the treasury consisted of mint interest, revenues from custody and confiscation, Egyptian dispatches, Istabl-ı Âmire revenues and Janissary Quarry beytülmâli. The expenditure items of the Ceyb-i Hümâyûn Treasury included expenditures for Mustafa III, his daughters Şah and Mihrişah Sultans and his son Şehzade Selim, the grants given during the Friday salutations, those distributed on religious days and nights, those given to the officials who became çerağ, alms, and payments made to the harem.
