Impact of 8-Week Judo Trainings Applied to 12-13 Age Group on Certain Physical Parameters

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to determine the impact of 8-week judo trainings applied to 12-13 age group on strength, flexibility and balance performance. A total of 19 male and female athletes who study at Ankara Yenimahalle Atatürk Secondary School (age 12.2 ± 0.4 years, tall stature 1.53 ± 0.08 m, body weight 47.4 ± 13.3 kg) voluntarily participated in the study. The approval of ethics committee was obtained from Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Social Sciences and Humanities Ethics Committee. In the study, vertical jump, flamingo balance, sit and tests flexibility, paw strength, 30-second sit-up, back strength and medicine ball toss tests were applied twice to the athletes before and after eight weeks. The athletes were applied an 8-week judo training program for two hours and three days a week (about 90 minutes after warm-up). The data obtained were evaluated using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 statistical program. After the 8-week judo training program, it was observed that the performance of the group in vertical jump, flamingo balance, flexibility, paw strength, 30-second sit-up, back strength and medicine ball toss tests increased significantly (p<0.05). According to the results obtained from the study, it can be suggested that 8-week judo trainings will contribute to the development of performance parameters such as strength, flexibility and balance of athletes in the 12-13 age group.
