1578-1585 expedition organization in the Eastern expeditions of the Ottoman Empire (Subsistence, supply and logistics issues)

The main source of the Ottoman Empire's success in wars throughout history stemmed from its perfect and complete expedition organization and logistics. In this thesis, the organization and logistics issues of the expeditions organized by the Ottoman Empire to the East between 1578 and 1585 were examined. Food, nutrients, weapons and ammunition required for the organization and logistics of the eastern expeditions carried out during the reign of Murad III were transported to the expedition area from distant regions such as Egypt, Jerusalem and Rumelia, especially the capital city, using the sea and land transportation network. Especially the supply and transportation of horses, mules, camels and oxen, which are an important part of transportation, enabled the success of this process. Again, the grain needed by the army was supplied from distant regions other than Anatolia. The weapons and ammunition required for the army were supplied from the mines in Anatolia as well as the production houses in Istanbul and shipped to the fronts. The soldier, who is the main subject of the expedition; It consisted of Kapıkulu soldiers, State soldiers, Crimean Tatar forces, Circassian troops and auxiliary forces. In addition, the initiatives taken to increase the morale and motivation of the soldiers in the army supported the success of the soldiers and increased their determination.
