Ulema's approach to renewal efforts in 18th century Ottoman education

In this research, the attitude of the ulema to the innovation movements of the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century has been touched upon. The study has been examined through other sources researched, and it has been tried to convey how the Ottoman education system has progressed since its establishment. In this research, which mentions that the educational institutions in the Ottoman state have changed with the 18th century, the reforms made in the fields of education and their reasons are emphasized. The approach of the ulama to the training activities carried out is discussed within the scope of their support and reaction. The support of the ulama, who have been active in the İlmiye class since its establishment, has been in order to provide their own privileges. The ulema group belonging to the lower class, on the other hand, took a passive position in the innovation efforts. The western influence in the educational institutions of the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century and the degree of closeness of the scholars to the central government will clearly reveal how they approached this situation.
