Abstract (EN)
France and other western countries created Balkan and then Armenian problems with the purpose of institutionalising their economic and political supremacy over the weakened Ottoman Empire and protecting the rights of non-Muslim minorities. In its harsh competition with England on colonialism, France entered Algeria in 1830 after England invaded Egypt in the Mediterranean. After this sharing which did not create much problem between the two countries in African continent, the problem emerged as regards sharing of the Middle East region where fertile soil, oil and mineral resources were abundant. Due to the alliances they established, the British wanted to have the upper hand by provoking the nationalist feelings in the territories where Arabs lived whereas the French did the same thing in territories with Armenian population. I tried to examine the Armenian nationalism which gained impetus after the treaties of San Stefano and Berlin which were signed in the last quarter of 19th century as well as the position of Armenians in the Ottoman empire, Armenian policy of France, the methods that Armenian leaders used in affecting the French public opinion, organization of Armenian committees in France and other European countries, written documents, member-gaining and revenue-raising activities, the revolt and war that erupted in Cilicia with cooperation of France and Armenians so as to separate that region from Ottoman Empire, along with their consequences. The resources that I used in order to prepare my thesis in an objective manner were French diplomatic resources, Prime Ministry State Archives and written documents which constituted the most important resources for me in writing this thesis.
