An evaluation of the literary works of teacher- author, who produced their work between 1924-1960 in terms of teacher and education idealism

This study is a qualitative study aimed at achieving ideal education and ideal teacher characteristics by examining novels containing teacher characters published between 1924-1960 by the authors engaged in education and training activities. For this purpose, descriptive scanning model was used. The scope of the study consisted of 20 novels on education and teacher, which were written and published by teacher writers between 1924-1960. During the research process, 20 novels containing teacher characteristics have been identified, primarily written by teacher writers during the period in question. After the identification of the novels, the messages related to the idealist teacher model, ideal education and training method were determined by using documentary scanning method and these messages were interpreted in terms of ideal education and ideal teaching understanding by using content analysis and descriptive analysis methods. As a result of this research, it is seen that ideal education and ideal teaching messages can be obtained from teacher and education novels written by teacher writers. By interpreting these messages, it was understood that the economic structure of teachers' places, the social relations of teachers with the public, the public's view on education, and the reasons of teachers preferencing their jobs could directly affect the quality of educational activities. In addition, the material, natural problems, negative opinions and behaviors of the teachers, the public, the bureaucrats and the students prevented the creation of an ideal educational environment. Together with these negative factors affecting education; the various actions that the idealist teacher characters, the public and the bureaucrats have done to eliminate these drawbacks have been put forward. In conclusion, the characteristics of the ideal teacher type were obtained from the teacher characteristics and behaviors of the teacher characters in the novels.
