Abstract (EN)
When it comes to architectural production, no form arises under a single influence, but rather it emerges through the coming together of various components. Interpreting this composition also requires an analysis. This thesis examines the elements that constitute the Second National Architecture period, which can be considered one of the most important turning points in Turkish architectural history, and the architectural environment created by the contradictions between them. Architecture underwent significant transformations under the influence of the 1940s, which played a major role in world history. In order to analyze the atmosphere that prepared the architectural environment in Turkey during the period determined in the thesis, the Modern Movement, which originated in Europe and had an impact all over the world, as well as political issues in Germany, Russia, and Italy, and the architectural environment developed under the influence of Classicism were emphasized. All of these factors created a contradictory architectural environment in Europe. Turkish architecture, which imported this contradictory architectural environment in Europe, produced a synthesis in architecture by adding the complexity that the country was already experiencing. In the period between 1940 and 1950, a new character was created by the contradictions between the different forms that Turkish architecture encompassed. Within the scope of this thesis, the aim is to reveal the tensions created by the coexistence of Modernism, "stripped" Classicism, and Regionalism. As a result of this research, the architecture of Turkey during this period is examined in light of its contradictions and a reading is made on its outcomes.
