The investigation of Turkish music used in Yesilcam movies between 1968 and 1978 in terms of mode (Maqam) and structure

This study has been carried out with the aim of investigating the 1968-1978 Yesilcam Turkish Soundtracks in terms of mode, structure, sociocultural and physchosocial aspects of the soundtracks.In the initial phase of the study, the available resources related to Yesilcam soundtracks and films shot and released between 1968 and 1978 have been investigated by making a literature review and the number of the films fitting into the terms of the study has been reduced to 57 through personal interviews. 57 selected Yesilcam movies have been offered to viewers from different age,gender, sociocultural and educational backgrounds by using questionnaires and 17 most appreciated movies have been chosen to be studied.In the second phase of the study, a rating scale has been prepared in order to evaluate Yesilcam movies accounting for the sample group in an objective way.19 rating scale questions have been prepared by taking the views of the experts in the field into consideration.Besides, an identification card illustrating the musical notes,features and posters of the 17 selected movies has been created. In the final phase of the study, 17 Yesilcam movies have been rated by examining the sound recordings and video samples in the company of the experts and the data obtained has been transformed into numeric data and visual charts by means of statistics software.In the study , it has been concluded that Yesilcam soundtracks are auditorily helpful,add distinctive feelings and meanings in the films,play a prominent role in conveying the folksiness and the cultural elements of the Turkish Art Music and it has been demonstrated that works of Turkish Art Music have been composed for some Yesilcam movies and the movies have been named after these exclusively composed works.
