Abstract (EN)

In this study, a total of nine compounds were obtained in the isolation studies carried out on ethanolic extracts of the root part of Echinops microcephalus Sm. and the root and the aerial parts of Echinops ritro L. Cardopatine, a thiophene compound with a dimer structure, as well as 2,2':5',2''-terthiophene, was isolated from the root of E. microcephalus, while bis(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, 4-quinolone and echinopsine were isolated from the root of E. ritro. β-sitosterol, scopolin and 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid were obtained from ethanolic extract of the aerial part of E. ritro. Mono and dialdehyde derivatives were synthesized from the isolated 2,2':5',2''-terthiophene using Vilsmeier Haack reaction. Nine new imine compounds were obtained as a result of the reaction of the mono aldehyde derivative with aromatic amines. The structures of the all compounds were elucidated using FTIR, 1D, 2D NMR techniques and LC-Q-TOF/MS. In bioactivity studies, antiproliferative activity against A549 cell line and cytotoxic activity against MRC-5 healthy cell line were tested using MTT method for both isolated and synthesized compounds. Additionally, acetylcholinesterase inhibition activities of the synthesized compounds were determined by Ellman method.
