Abstract (EN)

Objective: Infantile hemangiomas are the most common vascular tumor in childhood. Spontaneous decrease in size is an advantage in follow-up. It is an important disease due to the complications, such as loss of function because of its location, life threatening conditions, permanent scar and ulceration. The aim of this study was to evaluate infantile hemangiomas retrospectively, in terms of epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, treatment and clinical course. Patients and Methods: The clinical and demographic characteristics, follow-up results, duration of treatment and treatment response of 40 patients who were admitted to our hospital between January 2015 and June 2017 and diagnosed with hemangioma, were evaluated. Results: Of the 40 cases, 29 (70%) were female and 11 (27%) were male. Head and neck localized infantile hemangioma was found in 19 (46.3%) patients. 8 (19.5%) lesions were found in trunk, 2 (4.9%) were found in the anogenital region and 3 (7.3%) lesions were found in the visceral organs. Only half of the patients were followed-up (20 cases, 50%) without medication. Twenty patients (50%) received oral medication. Propranolol was preferred as oral medication. Spontaneous remission was observed in half of the patients without treatment and in the other half, the lesions remained stable. In 70% of patients receiving treatment, treatment response was obtained. Conclusion: We evaluated the demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients who were followed with the diagnosis of infantile hemangioma and evaluated the factors affecting the treatment and treatment response.
