Abstract (EN)

The dressing and social life of a Turkish woman, the stages she went through until she came to today's modern appearance and life are very diverse. While abayas were worn earlier in the Ottoman period, synthetic sheets of the East and the West began to be preferred by trying to comply with the Eastern influences and the Western fashion criteria of the period, and especially in the Constitutional Period, thin sheets with capes and narrow skirts began to be preferred. In addition to the rights granted to Turkish women by the Republic, it accelerated the ongoing change of clothes with the increase in their roles in business and social life. This thesis, which consists of three parts, explains the diversity of women's clothing and accessories from togas to turbans, necklaces and tennis shoes, and explains what people wear and why, as well as how clothing, hats, body accessories and shoes reflect different cultural, religious and social beliefs. In the first part of the study, the design, purpose, scope, data collection and importance of the study are included. The second part of the findings covers the ancient world, including prehistoric man and the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Greece, and Rome, as well as the Asian cultures of China, Japan, the Byzantine Empire, and nomadic cultures. Key topics covered in this chapter include the early use of animal skins as clothing, the introduction of fabric as the primary covering of the human body, and the development of various cultural traditions of draped and fitted clothing. The catalog section covers the years 1900-1950, women's clothing in Turkeye and the Westernization period. This chapter traces the rise of fashion designers as the main creators of new clothing styles, illustrates the impact of technology on clothing and fashion traditions, and presents the innovations made possible by technology.
