Abstract (EN)

Humans have been in a struggle for reasoning their existence and the universe in which they live since the day they were created. Myths and art are the first products of this reasoning and interpretation. Culture, art and therefore the history of humanity, which started with the primitive man's re-forming and thus re-interpreting an object belonging to the nature by taking it away from its own habitat and meaning brought their images and myths with them. With art and myths, they generated, humans provided, interpreted and enriched the continuity of life by dint of both visible images and the images of the world of the unknown that is behind the visibility. This study which aims at evaluating the painting art within the context of Mythology is a descriptive survey model. Within the scope of the research, more than seventy works, specified through purposeful sampling method, were rendered by benefiting from iconographic analysis method. As a result of the research, it was found out that mythological narratives were reflected directly in the works that were examined within the context of pre-modern art; that they were referred directly to narratives by using mythological images; that myths or mythological images were used as metaphors which reflected a critical view on scientific, political and social developments; that personal myths were reflected through referring mostly to different myths and rituals and that questions in the background such as gender, minority, race, identity and belongingness were implied.
