Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to examine what kind of relationship there is between the concepts of architecture and politics and how this is reflected in architectural designs and cities. First of all, the important concepts emphasized in the study was defined and the relationship of these concepts with the discipline of architecture was clarified. After that, three countries that are ruled by different political regimes were selected and compared in the context of government attitudes and architecture. Lastly, the Republic of Turkey was examined in this context, and how the political, economic and social developments experienced during the period limited to the 20th century reflected on Turkish architecture and cities were analyzed. In consequence of the study, it was ascertained that the political conditions of the period had a wide impact on architecture and cities, but this impact lead to practices that contradicted the primary aims of architecture, the urban order and therefore the requirements of the society. Accordingly, the study made suggestions on how the hierarchical relationship between the concepts of architecture and politics, of which the common subject is cities, can be enhanced and regulated for the benefit of architecture, city and society.
