Abstract (EN)

In this study, the world tobacco market and Turkey?s position in this sector, policies of main producer and consumer countries and changes related to economic structure of Adıyaman?s tobacco farmers which are occurred after policies implemented between years of 2000 and 2010 are examined.Datas obtained from national and international publications TEKEL, The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, Turkstat, State Planning Organization, The World Bank, Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Agency, FAO and USDA are used more often. In addition to this, comments and observations are made by datas obtained from surveys which are made with farmers mainly engaged in tobacco production.At result of study, it is determined that after privatizitaion and new policies of tobacco, TEKEL lost big majority of it?s market share and in Turkey % 70 in Adıyaman province % 85 of tobacco farmers gave up to produce.And also, it is seen that after tobacco production come to an end farmers who were in this sector could not create an alternative model and it is because a wave of immigration begun from rural areas to big cities.
