Evaluation of the effectiveness of the 2005 secondary steps mathematics program in application

In order to form the next generations, mathematics has a significant role in educating people who are mindful, creative, expressive and reasonable. It is important to determine the effectiveness, strong and weak sides of the mathematics programme which was developed to serve that purpose.This study was designed to examine the effectiveness of the elementary mathematics programme which has been put into practice gradually in all elementary schools since 2006-2007 academic year in terms of the mathematics teachers? ideas.This study has 5 parts. The first part is introduction. The second part is related publications about this subject. The third part gives information about the research method. The fourth part presents the findings and discussion. The fifth part includes conclusion and recommendations.The population of this study is the mathematics teachers who work at both state and private schools in Üsküdar and Ümraniye in 2007-2008 academic year. The sample of the study is 150 teachers who were chosen from this population randomly. The statistical analysis of the data was made by using the SPSS programme through ?independent samples t-test, one way ANOVA, post-hoc LSD, Scheffé and Tamhane?s T2 tests, non-parametric Kruskal Wallis-H test, non-parametric Mann Whitney-U test?.According to the results of the study, here are some suggestions in order to use the new mathematics programme effectively. Departments of mathematics education at universities have to practise the essential techniques and methods of constructive approach in mathematics. Alternative measuring and assessment techniques have to be taught and used.
