Comparative analysis of the effects of the 2008 global crisis and the covid-19 pandemic crisis on air cargo transport

In this study, the positive and negative effects of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and the Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis of the crises arising from different sources on the air cargo transportation sector are discussed. In order to evaluate the differences in the effects resulting from the structural differences of the crises in question; Reserve amounts, inflation, growth, export values of goods and products, trade volume of goods, total freight traffic and total revenues of companies engaged in air cargo transportation were examined. In this context, the time interval chosen to evaluate the effects of the 2008 crisis is 2008-2009, while the time interval chosen for the Covid-19 Pandemic is 2019-2020. In addition, among the annual activity reports of 21 air transport companies, which constitute approximately 80.3% of the air cargo market in the world, those that are suitable for the time period of the research were determined and included in the said activity reports; Wilcoxon and T Test tests were performed to see whether a meaningful result could be obtained over the changes in cargo revenues, total assets, total equity, current ratio and total liability data. According to the results obtained as a result of the study, various suggestions have been made in order to manage the crisis processes that are likely to be experienced in the future of air cargo transportation with the least negative effects.
