Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine which values to what extent are allowed in the story and tale books that are prepared for 3-6 year old children. For this study, qualitative model, and the method of this model; content analysis is applied. Two different data collection tools are used in this study. These tools are semi-structured interview forms, child stories and tales. The study group of the research is composed of 710 children, 192 parents, 50 teachers and 52 story and tale books. Based on the preferences of children, parents and teachers, 52 story and tale books were determined and content analysis was administered. Before the analysis, 20 values estimated to underline in the books are stated. These values are chosen from UNESCO Value List, Living Values List and Rokeach Value Classification. 8 children were interviewed in order to determine whether they notice the values in story and tale books or not. In the interview, firstly; a story that emphasizes the values explicitly and a tale of world classics are chosen, and then the story was read to 8 children one by one. Then, a day later; the tale is read at the same technique. After reading each book, open-ended questions about story and tale are asked and the answer of the question "Are the children aware of the implicit or explicit values that exist in stories and tales?" is sought. As a result of the research; it is understood that story and tale books prepared for 3-6 year old children, stress mostly the values of happiness; at least the peace, solidarity and honesty. However, patriotic value doesn't take place among these values. Whereas kindness, aesthetics, friendship, cleanness and helpfulness values are emphasized frequently; humility, tolerance, hospitality and respect values are emphasized rarely. While aesthetic value is emphasized mostly in the books that preferred by children and parents; happiness is mostly emphasized in the books that preferred by teachers. As for another result of the research, children mostly express explicit values easily from the story and tale books read to them. However, they could differentiate the implicit values after asking questions and giving hints. Some of the children at this research could never express implicit values. The results of the research are expected to contribute to authors while preparing the content of the story and tale books for the preschool ages 3-6 year old children, and also to teachers and parents for their book preferences . Key Words: Values in the Pre-School, Children Books, Story, Tale.
