Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of number sense strategies training given to 4th grade primary school students on the development of number sense skills. In the research, the pretest-posttest control group model, which is one of the quasi-experimental designs, was used. The sample of the study consists of 53 4th grade students studying in a state school selected by convenient sampling method in a district of Kütahya province. The 6-factor Number Sense Scale developed by Gürkan and Ulu (2023) was used in the study. Number sense strategies training was given to the Experimental Group for four hours a week for 6 weeks. The trainings cover the 6 components of number sense, meaning and size of numbers, dividing and recombining numbers, creating a reference point, the effects of operations on numbers, flexibility component, and judging the plausibility of the result. At the end of the number sense strategies training, the number sense skill scale was applied as a post-test in both groups. Statistical calculations of the quantitative data obtained as a result of the research were made with t-test, one-way ANOVA for related samples, and two-way ANOVA for mixed measurements. As a result of the research, it was concluded that there was a statistically significant effect on the development of number sense skills of the students in the experimental group who received number sense strategies training before and after the experimental procedure.
