Abd Allāh b. Wahb's (D. 197/813) Kitāb al-Qadar: A study of form, content and historical context

In the Islamic thought of the second century of Islam, the problem of predestination and free will aroused great repercussions within the scope of theological debates. Different theological arguments have been developed around this issue. According to the demand in the fields of kalām, maqālāt and philosophy, the problem of predestination and freedom in human acts has taken its place in hadith literature as well. In this field, the narrations about qadar emerged as a polemical literature and became an element that must be defended among the principles of faith within the creed and intellectual boundaries of the aṣḥab al-ḥadith. In the aforementioned polemic literature, 'Abd Allāh b. Wahb's (d. 197/813) Kitāb al-Qadar is a great richness because it conveys the political and theological image of the ahl al-ḥadith related to qadar talks in the second century AH, and because it is told from the earliest materials reached about this. In this thesis, after investigating the scientific and historical context in the emergence of predestination and free will in Islamic thought, Kitāb al-Qadar is analyzed in terms of form and content within the framework of the techniques of the science of hadith, considering 'Abd Allāh b. Wahb's life, scientific connections, geography and political background.
