Abstract (EN)

Geography studies in the Ottoman Empire started under the influence of the East. In the 15th century, Ottoman authors who tried to get acquainted with Arabic and Persian works started translation activities in the 16th century. In addition to translation activities, monographs and treatises were written in this century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Ottoman geographers used many works as sources while writing their works. Works of the genre of acâibü'l-mahlûkât written in Eastern sources were also included. Ottoman authors used the works written in this genre either jointly or independently. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ottoman authors who used the genre of Acâibü'l-Mahlûkât as a source were Mustafa b. Ali el-Muvakkit, Sipâhîzâde Mehmed, Mehmed Suûdi Efendi, Âşık Mehmed, Gelibolulu Mustafa Âli and Kâtib Çelebi. Mustafa b. Ali, the author of Tuhfetü'z-Zamânand Âşık Mehmed, the author of Menâzırü'l-Avâlim, were the most intensive users of works in the genre of Acâibü'l-Mahlûkât. Ottoman geographical works include water sources, mountains, land, animals, cities, stories and other subjects. For this reason, a wide range of geographical information was conveyed.
