Abstract (EN)
The study was conducted as descriptively and cross-sectionally between June 2017 and January 2016 to determine the problem solving skills of nurses working in emergency departments. The population of research created nurses working in the emergency units an University Hospital (40nurses), Numune Training and Research Hospital (56nurses) in Adana and Yozgat Cıty Hospital (19 nurses), Bozok University Health Practice And Research Center (12 nurses) in Yozgat. The research targeted to reach the entire population without going to sample selection. This study was conducted with 120 nurses who accepted the survey. In the collection of data was used the personal information form with the six sub-dimension Problem Solving Inventory developed by Şahin, Şahin and Heppner (1993). The coding of the data were performed in the SPSS for Windows 21.0 program on the computer. In the evaluation of the data, descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov–Smirnov scatter test, t test, one way analysis of variance and post-hoc analysis were used to determine whether there was a difference between the variables. The results were evaluated at 95% confidence interval, p <0.05 significance level. It was determined that 39.2% of the nurses working in emergency clinics were in the age group of 18-25, 66.7% of them were female, 49.2% of them were undergraduate and 55.8% were working environment in the source of the problem. 81,33 ± 19.91 point average with problem solving skills were found to be moderate. According to the educational situation; the difference between the mean scores of the urgent approach and the avoidant approach was found to be statistically significant (F=2,82; p=0,04<0.05). The mean scores of the hasty and avoidant approach subscale scores of the health vocational high school graduate nurses (31,72 ± 8,14), (12,05 ± 4,99) were significantly higher than those of the nursing undergraduate and postgraduate nurses (26,89 ± 8 , 31) and (6,66 ± 2,25) respectively. It is thought that the educational situation has a considerable influence on problem solving ability.
