The relationship of COVID-19 related in hospital mortality in geriatric patients registering to emergency department and detected clinical and diagnostic parameters at the emergency department visit

INTRODUCTION:Covid-19 started in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019 and spread allover the world in a short time. No effectivetreatment has yet beenfound. It is known that it has a severe course in elderlypatients. Inthisstudy, it wasaimedtoinvestigate the relationshipbetween coronavirus and mortalitybyevaluating the additionalfactorsaffecting the mortality of patientsover 65 years of age. MATERIALS AND METHODS:Inourstudy, 1469 patientsover the age of 65 whoappliedto the Ankara City Hospitalemergencydepartmentbetween April 2020 and September 2020 and werediagnosedwith Covid-19 wereincluded. The studywasconductedretrospectively. Demographicfindings, laboratoryresults, imagingresults, AVPU and CURB-65 scores of the patientswereevaluated. RESULTS:The studywasconductedwith 1469 patients, 730 (49.7%) female and 739 (50.3%) male, who met the inclusioncriteria. The age of the patientsranged from 65 to 101, with a meanage of 76.15. When the biochemicalparameterswereevaluatedaccordingto the presence of 28-day death; A significantcorrelationwasfoundbetweenurea, creatinine, ldh, troponin I, ck, leukocyte, lymphocyte, ast, alt, d-dimer values and mortality. A significantcorrelationwasfoundbetween vital signs, being on inotropictherapy, and mortality. CONCLUSION:Inourstudy, the factorsaffectingmortality in Covid-19 patientswereevaluated, and it wasobserved that troponin I, procalcitonin and ast,elevation, thorax CT uptake rate between 50-75%, sp02 value<90%, and being on inotropictreatmentwere the parameters that mostaffectedmortality.
