Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted in a single-blind, randomized controlled quasi-experimental design in order to examine the effect of training given to the operating room environment on anxiety levels in patients undergoing heart surgery. The study was conducted between 28 January 2019 - 04 October 2019 with patients who will have heart surgery at Ege University Health Practices and Research Center, Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. The sample of the research; The study consisted of 58 patients with a mean age of 50.86 + 8.60 (years) who met the inclusion criteria and accepted to participate in the study, starting from the date of data collection. Individuals were identified using simple random sampling method. They were included in the application and control group by coin-toss technique. Those who come to the application group, and those who come to tour; control group. Patients were given verbal and written information about the study. All patients included in the study were informed verbally and in writing one day before the surgery, and informed consent was obtained and ''Individual Identification Form'' was applied. Experimental group; 30 minutes of training the day before the operation with a visual flipchart prepared about the operating room environment when they came to the operating room, state anxiety scale was applied to both groups during anesthesia preparation stage and 15 minutes before the operation.Visual analog scale (VAS) was applied to the experimental group to determine the satisfaction level of the training given to the operating room environment. Data were analyzed by t test, ANOVA, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test. When we look at the mean effect score of education on anxiety, it was found that the experimental group had a lower score than the control group (p: <0.001). Anxiety levels of single patients were significantly higher than those of married patients (p: 0.036) (p <0.05). In the experimental group, the mean visual comparison scale score was significantly higher in the 24-50 age group than in the 51 and older age group (p: 0.002) (p <0.005). As a result; it was determined that the education given about the operating room environment in patients who will have heart surgery reduces anxiety. Brochure, picture or video training given to patient groups to be operated on, dissemination of training, repetition of the study in different sample groups and further studies are recommended.
