Adana deputies and their political activities (1961-1969)

Adana province was established on the fertile lands of Çukurova and has always been an important region due to its geographical location and underground and aboveground resources. In the Republican era, the city was named Adana until 1933 and Seyhan from 1933 to 1956. With the "Law on Changing the Name of Seyhan Province to (Adana)" published in 1956, it was accepted to change the name of Seyhan province to Adana. Adana, which entered into an important social and economic development process with the development of agriculture and agriculture-based industry in the Republican period, has also been important in Turkish political life with the deputies it sent to the parliament. Adana, whose population has increased rapidly with the immigration from abroad, has increased its representation power in the parliament accordingly. In the 12th and 13th periods, which we examined within the scope of our study, Adana was represented in the parliament with 12 deputies. In these periods, due to the proportional representation system with the election regulations made after the 1960 coup, deputies from different political parties from Adana entered the parliament. In this context, deputies elected from the Justice Party (AP), the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP) represented the province in the 1961 and 1965 elections. Adana, which was represented by more deputies than other provinces, was one of the cities that made significant progress in this period. Adana Member of Parliaments took part in the activities by offering solutions to both the problems of the regions in which they were candidates and the political, social and economic problems of Turkey. In the XII. XIII. Period, The study focused not only on the constituencies of the MPs representing Adana, but also on developments in different regions of Turkey. This study will provide an example of how political, social and cultural issues were handled in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in the 1960s and the proposed solutions. Therefore, XII.
