Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep problems seen in adolescents with electronic media usage and perceived stress. The study was carried out in high schools in Düzce between March 2018 and July 2018. The population of the study consisted of 1380 students according to the data obtained from Düzce Provincial Directorate of National Education. The age groups of the adolescents who participated in the study were between 13-18 and 542 were female and 838 were male. In this study, it was determined that more than half of the adolescents had an electronic media device in their sleeping rooms and postponed their sleep hours to spend time in these devices, and quitting the use of electronic media four hours before sleep had a positive effect on sleep quality. The PUKI sleep scores of the adolescents who sleep after 24 and go to sleep in bed for more than half an hour were found to be poor. It was found that adolescents who spend more time in electronic media and who spend more time in more than one electronic media shortened their sleep time and sleep quality deteriorated and there was a negative relationship with stress levels. When the adolescents who spend time on daily internet and electronic media were examined, it was found that the average score was five hours or more and this effect had a bad effect on PSQI sleep quality and had a moderate effect on perceived stress. As a result, it was shown that the perceived stress levels of adolescents' sleep were poor (PSQI sleep quality scores=6.43). As stress levels increased, sleep quality deteriorated. It is recommended that adolescents receive training on the effect of electronic media usage on sleep quality and stress management.
