Comparison of adaptation to pregnancy and motherhood of pregnants in Adiyaman (city center)

ABSTRACT Nurten ÖZÇALKAP, Comparıson Of Adaptation to Pregnancy And Motherhood of pregnants in Adıyaman (City Center). Graduate Thesis, Gazianatep, 2018. This study has been planned in cross-sectional and descriptive type to state and compare the adaptation of pregnants to pregnancy and motherhood in in Adıyaman city center. The study consisted of 308 pregnant women that match the criteria for including into the study admitted to 17 family health centers affiliated to Adiyaman Health Management, between December 24th 2016 and February 28th 2017. Data have been collected by using 'question form' and 'prenetal self-assesment scale' and with statical methods. It has been detected that 63% of pregnant participants were between 21-30 age, 54.2% of were secondary school graduated, 89.9% were unemployed, 57.8% had social security. It was found that 94.5% of women had preferred pregnancy, 31.5% had the first pregnancy of and 47.7% were in third trimester. It has been determined that most of pregnancies had been intented and planned. It has also been found that their feelings about pregnancy and motherhood were positive and they had got knowledge and social support from their families. The results show that unplanned and intented pregnancies increased the adaptation to pregnancy and motherhood, the rol acceptanc for motherhood and pragnancy was at midlevel, and it was increased parallel with knowledge and social support. This level was increased in those informed by health care proffesionals too. No significant difference in adaptation was detected between age groups. Addition to the result, it has been determined that pregnants married to persons with approval of their families, with unplanned pregnancies, and social support and increased knowledge improved the adaptation to pregnancy and motherhood. It has been concluded that there has been similarity pregnancy adaptation between pregnanta in Adiyaman city center. Key words: Pregnancy, maternity, adaptation and nursing.
