Disaster management system: A study of investigating the problems and solution methods of Turkey's disaster management system

Natural and human based disasters have become more risky and dangerous forall societies over the time. Considering the technological and industrial developmentsalong with population intensity in mega cities, the risk of disaster becomes higher andunavoidable. This phenomenon urges societies to be more sensitive toward disasters.Because of this reason, today all societies in the world accept the requirement thatdisasters must be managed and a disaster management system which is unique for themhas to be established. In this way, disaster management in Turkey displays a positivedevelopment.This study investigates the problems and solution methods of Turkey?s disastermanagement system from the disaster management systems perspective. In this study, asurvey questionnaire was used in a sample of local administrators who are responsiblefor the implementation of Turkey?s disaster management in their local areas. SPSS 11.0statistical package for windows used to analyze data. The main findings of study havebeen reached through hypothesis testing. Furthermore, recommendations were madeupon the findings in relation to relevant literature on the subject.Key Words: Disaster, disaster management, disaster management systems,Turkey?s disaster management system, evaluating Turkish disaster management.
