The investigation of operating nurses' healthy lifestyle behaviors and contributing factors

This descriptive study was carried out to investigate healthy lifestyle behaviors of operating room nurses and the factors affecting these behaviors. The sample of the study consisted of 100 operating nurses working in SBÜ Kanuni Education and Research Hospital on Kanuni Campus, Kanuni Education and Research Hospital on Numune Campus and KTÜ Farabi Hospital. 80 operating nurses who agreed to participate in the study were chosen as the final sample. The study data were collected through socio-demographic characteristics form, a questions addressing the risks and hazards induced by the hospital-operating room, health and working conditions, and health lifestyle behaviours scale under direct observation. The analysis of the data was performed using frequencies, t test, one way ANOVA and Pearson correlation. 90.0% (72 people) of the participant nurses were female and 10.0% (8 people) were male and the mean of their age was 36.05±8.11. The Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale (HLBS) mean scores of the operating room nurses working continuously for 1-3 hours without rest were found to be high (p=0.05, KW=2.9). In this study, the levels of healthy lifestyle behaviors of the nurses working in the operating room were found to be moderate.
