Abstract (EN)

The history of architecture shows that structures are shaped according to human needs. The need for wider and more functional spaces has led to the development of arches. Arches are used to create large openings in walls and take different forms depending on the region, period, and culture in which they are applied. In Anatolian Seljuk and early Ottoman architecture, arches are found as an important architectural element in almost every structure. Revealing the unique calculations of the various arch profiles in Anatolian Seljuk architecture, making them accessible to everyone, simplifying their drawings, and transforming them into parametric models in a computer-aided environment are crucial tasks. Applying the drawing techniques of these arches, while staying true to their original forms in modern structures, would bring significant advantages and benefits. Traditional arch drawing involves a considerable amount of technical knowledge. Digitizing this information makes it easier to preserve the aesthetic of traditional arches in modern architecture. The limited number of studies on Anatolian Seljuk architecture indicates the need for further research in this area. Differentiating between arch profiles and transferring their calculations and drawings into a digital environment will contribute to a better introduction of this cultural heritage to future generations. In this study, a model has been developed for the parametric design of Anatolian Seljuk architecture arch profiles in a digital environment. The data obtained from arch drawings were first transferred to the AutoCAD environment by showing the drawing steps. Then, these drawings were coded and parametrically analyzed using the Grasshopper plug-in for Rhino. The digital parametric design, created by adhering to traditional parametric measurements, provides easy access to the arch profiles of Anatolian Seljuk architecture.
