Determing the factors affecting the preference of kindergarten students for nati̇onal and translated children's books

The purpose of this research was to determine the factors affecting the preference of kindergarten students for national and translated children's books. The research group consisted of 22 preschool teachers who work in 2 kindergartens in Bursa and 272 parents who are attend their children in kindergarten. This study was conducted according to the "case study" design, one of the qualitative approach deseign. Two questionnaires were prepared as a data collection tool. These are 'Family Information Form' and 'Teacher Information Form'. In addition the book checklist prepared by the researcher. The following analyzes were performed through this checklist: Based on the answers given by the teachers and parents, the characteristics of the books preferred by children (such as native, translation, author, translator, illustrator, publisher, printing year, number of prints, book size, number of pages, and book type) were determined. A specific code was defined for each of the family and teacher information forms and the findings were specified with frequency and percentage. A document review was conducted to determine the characteristics of national and translated children's books that were preferred by children. According to the findings of the research, the characteristics of national and translation children's books preferred by children attending kindergarten are illustrated with plenty of pictures, heroes are mostly animals, funny, suitable for children's age levels, interesting and arousing works; The reasons why children love these works are determined by the interest of the visuals, love animals, their age level, and the design of the books as lively and colorful. It is determined that the pre-school teachers do not use acquire the qualities that can be preferred by children in order to develop reading interests and love of reading.the children books in daily regular plans. The most frequent classroom activity benefiting from the children books was drama and animation with Turkish language the most important factors in selecting books for classroom library were that the book with fuull of pictures´ the subject the childre"s age level on the other hand the most important factors that the parents were educative and instructive ç suitable to the children!s age level and the subject. More than the half of the preschool teachers didn!t find the classroom library sufficient. When the characteristics and preferability of the national and translation works preferred by children are compared, it was determined that the translation works have a certain adequacy and preferability in terms of sales figures, in terms of characteristics such as publisher quality, size diversity, author and illustrator same person, paper type, literary genre diversity, volume type.
