Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the thiol disulfide homeostasisand IMA levels in cats with anemia and to examine the relationship between these values and oxidative stress. In this study, which was carried out on owned cats brought to Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Internal Diseases Clinics for general examination, samples were collected from a total of 40 cats, 20 of them with anemia and 20 of them healthy.Cats aged between 2 and 6 months were included in the study, regardless of breed and gender. According to the results, cats with hematocrit ≤27%, erythrocyte count ≤5.5×10⁶/L and hemoglobin ≤9 g/dL were examined in the anemic group.Thiol disulfide homeostasis parameters (native thiol, total thiol, disulfide, % disulfide/total thiol and % disulfide/native thiol) IMA value were measured from serum samples. The results were compared between the healthy group and the anemic group. It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference (p= 0,0969) between the two groups, based on the age variable. As a result of the examination of the parameters related to the thiol disulfide balance, native thiol (p=0,2920), total thiol (p=0,5066), disulfide (p=0,1560), %native thiol/total thiol (p=0,0154), %disulfite/native thiol (p=0,4697), %disulfite/total thiol (p=0,0951) were not found to be statistically significant. No statistically significant difference was found in the compared IMA levels either (p=0,4132). As a result; The inability to detect statistically significant differences in oxidative stress parameters such as thiol, native thiol, total thiol, disulfide and IMA values in anemia and healthy kittens is thought to be due to the presence of transient neonatal anemia due to iron deficiency in cats in this age group. In addition, it is recommended to consider the type and severity of anemia in future studies, and to pay attention to these issues during the treatment phase.
