Abstract (EN)

It is important to establish daily life relationships with the content taught in science education. The case-based instruction method is one of the methods that build the bridge between theoretical knowledge and daily life. It is known that technology-supported learning environments are important to increase the interest of students, especially in today's world. In this study, animations based on cases were developed and a learning environment was designed within the framework of these developed teaching materials. In this framework, the aim of the study is to reveal the effect of the animation-supported case-based science learning environment on students' academic achievement and motivations. The quasi-experimental design was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 47 eighth-grade students (experiment-1, experiment-2, and control group) studying in a secondary school in the Simav district of Kütahya province in the 2019-2020 academic year. As the data collections tools, the Simple machines achievement test and the 5-point Likert-type scale motivation to learn science were used in the research. Also, the participants were asked questions to reveal their opinions about the learning environment. In the study, a significant difference was found between the groups in favour of the experiment groups in terms of motivation towards science learning and achievement. As a result, it can be said that the animation-supported case-based learning environment has a positive effect on achievement and science learning motivation. Most of the participants emphasized that the learning environment is fun and facilitates learning. Also, most of the participants stated that cases based on daily life events contributed to the learning of the subject.
